This rodent has spines on its back. In wet streamside forest, it hides in a burrow by day and searches for food at night.
Backward-pointing spines cover the front part of its back; they are pale at the base and black at the tip. The back fur is brown.
It is terrestrial and nocturnal. It spends the day in a burrow, often in a stream bank, and comes out to forage at night.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
