The Choco Screech-Owl is a small owl found from Panama through Colombia to western Ecuador. It occurs in gray and rufous phases, and a row of white spots is visible on the folded wing.
The back and wings are gray or rufous, with fine black vermiculations. A row of white dots crosses the folded wing, and the iris is yellow.
It is recorded in humid forest, forest edges, and secondary growth. Its likely prey includes insects and other invertebrates as well as small vertebrates; it has been seen catching insects near a light.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
