The Pacific Pygmy Owl occurs in gray-brown and rufous color forms. It ranges along the western Andes of South America and is most active around dusk and at night.
Typical birds are gray-brown with spots on the crown and upperparts. Rufous birds have more streaking on the crown and upperparts.
It is nocturnal but also active during part of the day. Song is strongest at dusk, and males are strongly territorial.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
