This flycatcher lives in montane forest understory on Mindanao. An early description of the female records dark slate-gray upperparts with white and buff underparts.
The female described in 1910 had dark slate-gray wings, back, and tail, a blackish crown and ear-coverts, white throat and belly, and buff sides and flanks.
It uses the understory of moist montane forest above 1,000 m and searches for invertebrates there.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
