This tomb bat is recorded on islands in eastern Indonesia. A 1995 study compared specimens by island and distinguished records of the nominate subspecies from those of a newly described subspecies.
Adult T. a. achates specimens from Wetar averaged 70.6 mm from snout to vent and 27.7 mm in tail length.
Specimens of the newly described subspecies T. a. minor were collected at a beach-cave entrance on Kai Besar and in a wartime tunnel and large doline cave on Tanimbar.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
