The European Herring Gull is a large gull commonly seen in Britain and Ireland. Its grey back and pink legs help identify it.
Adults have a white head and body, a grey back, and pink legs. The yellow bill has a red spot.
It uses towns and farmland as well as coasts, and takes a varied diet that includes fish, small animals, and human food scraps.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
From 1999 to 2024, the RSPCA Mallydams Wood centre in the UK admitted 17,334 European Herring Gulls and released 9,013. The post-release survival analysis covered 2,796 birds ringed and released between 1999 and 2010.
