Athene roseoaxillaris is an owl of Makira Island in the Solomon Islands. A 2018 island survey reported few records and described it as forest-restricted.
At about 21 cm, it is small for an owl. Its plumage is nearly uniform rufous-brown, more orange below, with a white throat band and dark eyes.
It uses forest in lowlands and foothills up to about 900 m and is mostly nocturnal. The 2018 island survey found few recent observations or specimens; much of its behaviour remains poorly known.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
