In Brazil’s Atlantic Forest, this tanager feeds on fruit in the canopy and at forest edges, sometimes joining mixed-species flocks.
It is about 13 cm long. The male has a blue crown and throat, with red on the sides of the head and across the nape. The female is similar but duller.
It forages in the canopy and in mixed flocks, and descends to shrubs and small trees along forest edges for fruit. It also takes larvae, insects, and nectar. Its cup nest is placed among bromeliads or epiphytes, and the pair cares for the young.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
