A pewee distributed across Puerto Rico and islands of the Lesser Antilles. Subspecies differ among islands, including in the color of the breast and belly.
The nominate form on St Lucia has dark olive-brown head and upperparts, with rufous-cinnamon on the throat, breast, and belly. The sexes are similar.
It hunts insects from low perches in open spaces beneath the forest canopy. It often uses upland forest; some populations also occur in drier lowlands and coastal mangroves.
