Larvivora komadori breeds in the northern Ryukyu Islands. A Japan Tourism Agency account describes its Amami-Oshima population in evergreen broadleaf forest, with males showing red plumage and a black breast. It is treated separately from Okinawa Robin.
The Amami-Oshima account describes the male with bright orange-red head, back, tail and upper wing, a black chest and sides, and a white belly. The female is plainer than the male.
On Amami-Oshima it lives in evergreen broadleaf forest and uses its long legs to search the forest floor for insects and larvae. The account says the male’s loud call helps defend territory and attract a mate.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
