The Cape spiny mouse is a small spiny mouse of rocky areas and fynbos in southwestern South Africa. Seeds make up most of its recorded diet.
It has a dark gray-brown back and pale belly. Its spiny hairs are less abundant than in other Acomys species.
It is nocturnal. Seeds made up about 91–94% of the diet in the cited feeding records; pollen from fynbos plants was also found in droppings.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
