This cotinga is known from a restricted area of Colombia's Central Cordillera. Its chestnut crown and gray body are distinctive.
Its body is uniformly slaty gray, with yellowish skin around the eye and at the gape. The crown is chestnut brown, though hard to see in poor light.
The species description reports it from very humid premontane forest at 1,500–1,820 m in Colombia's Central Cordillera. Its piercing call was heard through the day, and it sometimes flicks its long tail upward while perched.
