This North American swallow catches insects while flying low over water and nests in burrows in banks.
It has a plain brown back and dusky throat, with paler underparts. Tiny hooks on the leading edge of the wing feathers give it its name.
It breeds in the United States and southern Canada in summer and winters in Mexico and Central America.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
