This chat lives in semi-desert shrubland in southwestern Africa. It has a gray back, white underside, and white outer tail feathers, and catches insects in short flights.
The upperparts range from pale to medium gray, and the wings are blackish brown. The fairly long tail is black with white outer feathers; the white widens toward the base. The underside is white, and the bill, legs, and feet are black.
It uses semi-desert shrubland and catches insects such as butterflies, bees, wasps, locusts, and ants in short flights. It builds a ground cup nest, usually under a bush or shrub.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
