A large cuckooshrike of New Guinea and nearby islands, it is notable for its blue-grey body and heavy black bill.
It is about 33-37 cm long, with blue-grey plumage, a black face area around the bill, and a large, heavy bill.
It is seen alone or in small groups in the forest canopy and is reported to eat insects, fruit, and small lizards. Two observations were made on Halmahera in 2012, but they do not show that the bird is resident or breeds there.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
