This hummingbird occurs in eastern Brazil. Males have a bright breeding plumage and a duller post-breeding plumage.
In breeding plumage, the male has a blue-green crown, an iridescent violet gorget, dark green underparts, and a central white stripe. The female has green-black throat feathers edged in white, pale grey underparts, and a tail with a steel-blue band and white tips.
It feeds mainly on nectar. The guide reports that after breeding, males take on subdued eclipse plumage around July and regain brighter colors around October.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
