A narrow blood-red patch marks the center of the white throat and breast. The crown, nape, and parts of the wings have iridescent green feathers; much of the upperparts is dark chestnut glossed reddish purple.
It forages for plant material on the forest floor under closed canopy and dense understory. When alarmed it tends to run, usually flying only a short distance if flushed.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
