The Taiwanese population described by the Ministry's bird guide is a forest bird with a grey head and a white eye-ring. Outside the breeding season it forages in mixed-species flocks.
The sexes are similar. The head is dark mouse-grey, with a white eye-ring and dark cheek stripes; the back, wings and tail are yellow-brown, while the throat and centre of the breast are pale grey-white.
It forages from low bushes to the canopy. Outside the breeding season it joins mixed-species flocks, sometimes leading the search for food and giving alarm calls.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
