The Southern Tigrina is a small cat with thick-edged markings on yellow-brown fur. It ranges from Brazil to eastern Paraguay and northeastern Argentina, and hunts small mammals, birds, and reptiles.
Its coat ranges from dark yellow-brown to ochraceous buff, with rosettes that have thick, continuous rims. It tends to be bulkier, with a thicker tail and smaller, rounder ears.
It lives alone and is active mainly at night, though it may be active by day or at different times in different places. Small mammals form much of its diet, and it also takes birds and reptiles.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
