This molossid bat was described from Alor Island, Indonesia. The original account is based on one adult male collected from a tree hollow, so information on its life and distribution is limited.
In the adult male holotype, fur on the top of the head was as dark as fur on the lower back. The authors contrast this with the lighter head of O. formosus.
The original account records the holotype as collected from a hollow in a tree at Desa Apui on Alor Island.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
