A large woodcreeper of Andean forests, it searches along trunks and branches with a notably stout bill.
Its large gray bill is conspicuous, and fine pale streaks occur on the head and breast.
It uses trunks and branches in the middle and upper parts of highland pine-oak and evergreen forest, and may travel with mixed-species flocks.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
