A hummingbird endemic to Colombia, with a bronze-red back, chestnut belly, and iridescent green throat. It takes nectar and may defend sites where flowers are abundant.
Its back and rump are glossy bronze-red, its throat and chest iridescent green, and its belly chestnut. Females have a paler belly and a white band high on the throat; juveniles have rusty neck feathers.
It takes nectar and often visits flowers of Trichanthera gigantea. Territorial behavior is reported where those flowers are abundant, and breeding is described as likely linked to flowering.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
