This shrew occurs in Tanzania's East and West Usambara Mountains. A forest-fragment study recorded it mainly in large, relatively undisturbed forests.
Its back and underside are rich brown. Long bristles grow near the base of the tail, and the first upper incisor forms a long hook.
Surveys recorded it mainly in relatively undisturbed forest fragments larger than 500 hectares, with few captures in small disturbed fragments.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
