The Saharan Shrew is reported from a restricted Atlantic Saharan range, from Morocco through Western Sahara to Mauritania. A 2006 field study trapped five specimens near Guelmim.
The tail is long, slender, and densely haired. The back is pale gray mixed with white and brown; the underside and upper surface of the hind feet are whitish.
The Guelmim study site had river-side dunes with tamarisk, tall grass, and Atriplex shrubs. This describes the capture site, not every habitat used by the species.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
