This elusive flycatcher lives on Mindanao in mountain forest. It is recorded alone or in pairs in low vegetation on wet ravine slopes.
The juvenile first described in a 2016 note has warm orange-buff on the face, upper breast, and flanks, a yellow gape, a very short tail, and pale pink legs.
Records are from 700–1,500 m in mossy submontane forest and secondary growth, using the understory up to 10 m above wet ravines. Birds are usually alone or in pairs; individuals in breeding condition were recorded in April and May.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
