The Black-capped Parakeet lives in humid lowland forest in Peru, Bolivia, and western Brazil. Its head and breast markings vary between two subspecies, and it feeds in the canopy on fruit.
Adults have a black forehead and crown, green cheeks and ear coverts, and pale scalloping on the neck and breast. The pale markings are narrower in the subspecies ranging from southeastern Peru.
Wild birds have been recorded eating Cecropia fruits and feed in the canopy. They occur in pairs or small family groups during breeding and in flocks of up to about 30 at other times.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
