Hansa's mastiff bat is small for its genus and flies high in tropical-forest canopies. It has records from several countries in Central and northern/eastern South America.
The dorsal fur is rich blackish brown and the underside is paler. The tail extends beyond the rear edge of the wing membrane.
It flies in the upper canopy of tropical forests. In lowland rainforest in French Guiana, it was caught in a net set 10–13 m above a narrow dirt road.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
