A lowland Neotropical forest antshrike. In a study in Panama, pairs foraged in the canopy, often among large liana tangles.
Males have dense charcoal-black bars across the body, while females have reddish-brown bars. Both sexes have a sturdy hooked bill.
Pairs hold territories and, at the Panamanian study site, foraged mostly in the upper canopy and liana tangles. The study also recorded pairs mobbing and attacking snakes.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
