This small hummingbird occurs in dry hill forest and scrub in Ecuador and Peru.
Males have bronze-green upperparts and an iridescent aquamarine throat. The short black bill is slightly decurved.
It feeds on nectar by visiting flowers along a regular circuit.
On 21 July 1963 in Peru’s Santa Eulalia Valley at 1,600 m, up to four birds simultaneously hunted insects above a shallow stream pool and rested on exposed branches near the water.
On 1 September 1963 at Chosica, Peru, at 800 m, a male performed a pendular flight display in front of a perched female.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
