The Fairy Paradise Kingfisher is striking for its red underparts and long tail streamers. It lives in lowland forest and mangroves on New Guinea.
Adults have a blue-black crown and upperparts, a pink-red rump and underparts, and a purple-blue tail with elongated central feathers ending in broad white tips. The bill is orange-red.
It perches on a low horizontal branch in the forest understory and scans for prey. It eats insects and larvae and may also take earthworms.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
