A kingfisher of the Bismarck Archipelago. A historical account describes a black head and blue wings, while a recent New Britain survey recorded it in degraded forest.
The type specimen account describes a black head, neck, and upper back; white patches on the back and rump; blue wings; pale cinnamon underparts; a coral-red bill; and long central white tail feathers edged with blue.
A conservation survey paper reports that this Bismarck-endemic species tolerates degraded forest and was recorded there more often than in old-growth forest in some survey data.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
