This bat is known from montane areas of northern and central Madagascar. Its original description reports four localities and bats in torpor during cooler months; partial migration is only a possibility.
A figure caption for one photographed bat from Bemanevika describes a long inner-ear projection, slightly broad at the base, narrowed midway, curving inward near the end, and tapering to a rounded tip.
The original description reports bats in torpor at a Montagne d’Ambre site, but no deep hibernation. It mentions possible partial migration without confirming it as established behavior.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
