The Olive-backed Sunbird is a small bird that uses its slender, curved bill to feed from flowers. In Queensland it also occurs in gardens and along forest edges, and males and females differ in throat color.
The male has a yellowish-olive head and back, a yellow belly, and an iridescent dark blue-black throat and upper breast. The female is paler and lacks the glossy throat feathers.
It searches the flowers of trees and shrubs, using its curved bill to take nectar. It also takes small invertebrates from flowers and leaves, and may hover while feeding on nectar.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
