This long-tailed pouched rat is reported around the Nyika Plateau, near the present-day Malawi-Zambia border. It stores seeds and fruit in a chamber of its nest burrow.
Adults were dark gray on the back in the dry season. Some were observed to change to a light reddish brown in the wet season.
It lives in broad-leaved evergreen forest and feeds chiefly on seeds and fruit, which it stores in the nest chamber of its burrow.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
