The Amazon dwarf squirrel has a brownish back, orange chest, and pale-tipped tail shorter than its body. By day it moves along forest trunks and vines while searching for insects and palm fruits.
Its back is finely grizzled brown, sometimes reddish or olive. The chest is the deepest orange, with paler orange on the underside. Its slender tail is shorter than the body and has whitish tips.
It is active by day and uses forest levels from the ground to the canopy, although much of its activity is on lower trunks and vines. It searches trunks and fallen wood for arthropods and also eats palm fruits and nuts.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
