This swallow inhabits arid and semi-arid parts of southern and central Australia. It breeds in open country where sandy banks or earth cliffs are available.
It is slender with a deeply forked tail. The crown and nape are grey-brown with a white eyebrow and dark line; the back, throat, and breast are white, while the belly, wings, and tail are black.
It nests in horizontal burrows excavated in earth banks. It is also associated with open dry country, including mulga, saltbush, and bluebush landscapes.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
