This shrike-babbler occurs on Vietnam’s Dalat Plateau. The 1919 description was based on specimens from the Langbian Peaks, and a 2009 species-limits study also lists the Da Lat Plateau as its range.
The 1919 description says the male is paler below than nominate P. aeralatus, lacks black tips on the outer secondaries and tertials, and has reduced white tips on the primaries. A male photographed at Ta Nung on 14 January 2020 has a black head and face, white eyebrow, gray back, yellow wing panel, and pale belly.
Callyn Yorke recorded males and females on the Dalat Plateau in 2019–2020. They called occasionally and foraged along horizontal branches in the subcanopy of pines and broad-leaved trees at Ta Nung, Tuyen Lam Park and Tuyen Lam Lake.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
