This sunbird occurs in southern Mindanao. A 2021–2023 study in the montane forest of Mt. Melibengoy recorded visits to flowers of nine plant species and described plumage differences between males and females.
The male has little metallic green on the forehead, a pale orange-yellow centre to the lower breast and belly, and lighter scarlet pectoral tufts. The female has olive-yellow edges to the scapulars and secondaries, a pale grey throat finely streaked with white, and a paler yellow belly.
At Mt. Melibengoy’s montane forest, feeding activity at flowers peaked early in the morning, and none was recorded by noon. The study identified nine food plants.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
