At about 8 cm long, this is a tiny flowerpecker. Males have a scarlet breast patch, while females show a pale stripe. It is endemic to the Solomon Islands, where it feeds on fruit and insects in forest and scrub.
It has grey upperparts, a white throat patch and yellow-green flanks. Males have a scarlet breast patch; females instead have a creamy stripe from chin to belly.
It uses both forest canopy and understory as well as scrub. It eats fruit and insects, usually alone or in pairs, and occasionally hovers while feeding.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
