The Little Forktail is a small streamside bird with striking black-and-white plumage. It flicks its short, shallowly forked tail while searching for aquatic insects on rocks.
The forehead and rump are white, while the head, back, and throat are black. A white triangular bar crosses each wing; the short, slightly forked tail has white outer feathers. The sexes look alike.
It lives alone or in pairs beside rocky mountain streams, often near waterfalls. It takes insects from wet rocks and running water, and sometimes dives into turbulent water.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
