This ovenbird occurs in lowlands from Ecuador into northwestern Peru. Breast spotting varies, and flank color helps distinguish it from related species.
The throat and abdomen are white, and the white breast carries a variable number of brown spots or streaks. The flanks are cinnamon; a white eyebrow and rufous tail feathers are also characteristic. Breast marking varies.
It uses low-elevation, semi-open scrub and searches for invertebrates on the ground. The account describes it as sedentary, with records mainly from low elevations.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
