This flycatcher inhabits lowland forest in Southeast Asia. Rhinomyias olivaceus, the candidate-pool name, is an older generic combination; current accounts use Cyornis olivaceus. It catches insects from mid-level perches.
It has olive-brown upperparts, a pale throat and a warm fulvous band on the chest. Its compact build helps separate it from similar jungle flycatchers.
It sallies from mid-level perches to catch insects. In Sabah it was recorded in scrub and old forest; one male collected in January was in breeding condition.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
