This large laughingthrush is found in China. It uses mountain scrub along forest edges, rhododendron thickets, and meadows.
The crown, nape, and moustachial stripe are dark gray-brown; the sides of the head and throat are chestnut. White-tipped feathers form spots on the chestnut back, and the iris is yellow.
It occurs in scrub at mid- to high-elevation forest edges, rhododendron thickets, and meadows.
