The Namaqua Sandgrouse is a ground-dwelling bird of dry southwestern Africa. It eats seeds, and males carry water to chicks in their belly feathers.
Both sexes have sandy or brown plumage that blends into dry ground, but their facial and breast patterns differ.
It feeds on seeds on the ground and travels to water. Males soak their belly feathers to carry water to chicks; females have also been recorded doing this, but less often.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
