A dark nightjar of moist forests west of the Andes in Colombia and northwestern Ecuador. It feeds on insects caught in flight.
Its dark grey or brown plumage has mottling in the other color. It has a large white throat patch, white spots on the secondary coverts and white tail tips; the sexes are nearly identical.
It uses moist lowland forest to about 900 m and seems to favor edges near rivers or fallen trees. It catches insects in flight, but how often it sallies from a perch is uncertain.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
