This thrush occurs around the Himalayas. It has a dark-brown head and reddish-brown wings. A report from Majuli Island, Assam, describes feeding in damp leaf litter and a record of a small frog in its diet.
The Dark-sided Thrush had not previously been recorded in Upper Siang when one was seen in December 2013 in thick undergrowth beside a small stream in mature forest at about 600 m. It foraged in shallow water. Good photographs helped separate it from the similar Long-billed Thrush: the bird showed rufous-brown upperparts and a wing panel, a strongly patterned face, a white eye-ring, contrasting ear-coverts, and a pale crescent behind them.
A report from Majuli Island, Assam, described feeding on invertebrates in leaf litter near wet soil; on a later visit, a small frog was reported in its diet.
The head and nape are dark brown, the lores are whitish, and the wings are reddish brown.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
