This small seabird is endemic to the Azores. It nests on rocky islets and feeds at sea on crustaceans, small fish, and other marine prey.
The adult male holotype in the 2008 description had sooty dark-brown upperparts, a white rump band, and a deeply forked tail.
It breeds on Azorean islets from March to October. Nests are placed in low, flat ground or in small cavities and crevices on cliffs; at sea it feeds on planktonic crustaceans, small fish, deep-sea fish, and cephalopods.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
