The Himalayan Owl is a medium-sized owl of mountain forests from the Himalayas across East Asia. It has no ear tufts and a pale X-shaped mark across the face.
It is about 35–40 cm long, with dark eyes and no ear tufts. A pale X crosses the dark facial disk. The wings and tail are broadly barred; the mottled upperparts contrast with coarse dark streaks and cross-bars below.
It lives in coniferous and oak forests, especially rocky forested ravines. It is nocturnal and hides in trees by day. It eats beetles, small birds, and small mammals, and breeds in tree holes or rocky hollows.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
