The European barbastelle is a bat whose broad ears meet above its forehead. The tips of its black fur are pale, and it uses different roosts in summer and winter.
Its long black fur has white or yellow tips, and its underside is paler than its back. Its short, broad ears face forward and join across the forehead.
It uses wooded uplands. In summer it roosts in hollow trees or buildings; in winter it hibernates in caves, mines or other underground gaps. Moths made up most of the recorded diet in studies in Germany and Switzerland.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
