This barbastelle was described from Fangshan District in southwestern Beijing, China. Specimens in the original description came from a nearby cave and an abandoned tunnel; the account is based on records from a small number of sites.
The dorsal fur is black with brown-gray tips, and the underside is lighter. Its ears have a nearly square outline, with transverse ridges on their brownish-black surface.
In the original description, researchers mist-netted and released one female at San-Qing Cave in 2001, then found one hibernating male at the same cave in 2002. Other specimens were netted in a nearby abandoned tunnel.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
